Crystal Lagoon™ at Mirada
Unique Engineering Solutions designed the Crystal Lagoon™ at Mirada to help the residents of San Antonio, Florida, enjoy an aquatic paradise. It’s the largest lagoon we’ve designed to date, as it spans a majestic 15 acres. To put this size into perspective, we could theoretically fit more than 10 football fields inside the water area alone. To contain such a body of water Unique Engineering Solutions had to design over 4,802 linear feet of retaining wall.
Even though Mirada Lagoon is only a few minutes east off of I-75’s Exit 285, it resembles a mystical, otherworldly oasis complete with sky-blue waters and good times. When guests use the amenities here, they feel like they’re vacationing in the middle of the Caribbean without all the travel and expenses.
We designed Mirada Lagoon with distinct beach-access entries. This design choice promotes privacy and enjoyment for everyone who uses its amenities. Visitors can use the beach-access entry that’s specifically designated for them, while MetroPlaces residents can enjoy convenient access to the other four resident-specific entries.
One of the best things about these entry points is that they’re all ADA-compliant. Each beach-access entry area has a slight slope to allow easy entry into and exit from the azure lagoon. We’ve also incorporated a textured liner in select access locations so visitors can get a good foothold to navigate their way into the water easily.
While slipping is something we want to avoid, sliding is a different story. Unique Engineering Solutions designed a 20.5-foot-tall slide for kids and adults alike to enjoy. Other fun amenities of the lagoon include a 2,590-square-foot splash pad, a 20-foot dive well with deep blue waters, and a floating obstacle course. With these additions we’ve made, visitors can enjoy safe and supervised fun while getting their energy out for the day.
If they so please, guests can access the kayak and paddle board launch. Once aboard these watercrafts, they can enjoy a safe and memorable time as their zones are distinct from the swimming area.
While creating fun-filled outdoor spaces is always important in our work, we also designed the Mirada Lagoon with efficiency at the forefront. We have incorporated eco-friendly technology into this lagoon to minimize water consumption and reduce energy use.
